Rideau-Vanier is the historic heart of Ottawa's francophonie. About 30.2% of the ward's residents have French as their mother tongue — the highest share in CECCE's Zone 6. Muséoparc Vanier, the Festival des Sucres — Canada's only urban sugar bush — and the Grotte de Lourdes are living witnesses to that history.
As everywhere in Ontario, the default school support designation is not French Catholic: without an explicit request, it stays English public. That designation determines both where your school taxes go and which voters' list you're on for the October 26, 2026 school board election.

Our schools in Rideau-Vanier
CECCE has three schools in the Rideau-Vanier area: Collège catholique Samuel-Genest, the only high school in the Ottawa region offering a Concentration Scientifique; École élémentaire catholique Horizon-Jeunesse, rebuilt with a geothermal system; and École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Anne, which marked its 150th anniversary in 2023.
