Accessibility Statement
Our commitment
David Elisma and the Zone 6 campaign team for the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) are committed to making the votonselisma.ca website an inclusive digital space, accessible to all voters, regardless of their abilities. This statement describes the concrete measures we implement to meet recognized accessibility standards. We are committed to designing and maintaining the site in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, Level AA, as published by the W3C. This approach also reflects compliance with Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), which imposes accessibility obligations on Ontario organizations with respect to websites. For us, accessibility is a constant principle and not merely a technical requirement, because civic participation presupposes equal access to information.
Measures already in place
The site was designed with accessibility practices built in from the outset. A skip-to-content link allows people navigating by keyboard or with a screen reader to jump directly to the main content, without having to traverse the entire navigation on each page. The heading structure follows a coherent semantic hierarchy (from h1 to h2, and so on), making it easier to understand the organization of the content and to navigate with assistive technology. Keyboard focus indicators are visible: any keyboard interaction highlights the active element with sufficient contrast. Meaningful images are accompanied by alternative text describing their function or content, while purely decorative images are handled so as not to clutter the navigation. The site is fully bilingual, in French and English, and switching between versions is accessible and consistent. Colour contrasts meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, ensuring comfortable readability, in particular for users with visual impairments. The site is also designed to be fully keyboard-navigable, with no mandatory use of a mouse.
Ongoing improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing process. Despite the care taken in designing the site, some pages or features may present limitations or defects that have not been detected. We are committed to regularly evaluating the site, taking into account feedback from users, and correcting reported accessibility issues wherever possible and within a reasonable timeframe. When adding new content or new features, we will ensure that the level of accessibility described in this statement is maintained. Third-party content integrated into the site, where any exists, may present accessibility constraints that depend on its respective publishers; we strive to favour accessible sources.
Report an accessibility problem
If you experience difficulty accessing any content or feature of the site, or if you wish to share a suggestion for improvement, please do not hesitate to contact us. You may write to us through the contact form available at /en/contact. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and will do our best to provide a solution or an accessible alternative. Your report directly contributes to improving the site and to the quality of the experience for all visitors. Please describe, where possible, the page concerned and the nature of the problem encountered, so that we can act effectively.
