Land Acknowledgement
Our acknowledgement
David Elisma's campaign acknowledges that the city of Ottawa — and every school in CECCE's Zone 6 — sits on the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. We offer this acknowledgement with respect for the stewards of this land since time immemorial.
Why this page exists
The history of education in Canada includes the history of residential schools and their intergenerational effects — a history Ontario's schools, including French Catholic schools, have a responsibility to know, to teach, and never to repeat. Canada marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation every September 30th, an occasion for our school communities to keep learning — not only about Indigenous peoples, but with them and from them.
An ongoing commitment
This acknowledgement is not a one-time gesture. As a candidate for school board trustee, David Elisma is committed to carrying this reflection into his work at CECCE, alongside students, families, and educators, in the spirit of reconciliation.
